AAA Grade Libyan Desert Glass, also called Libyan Gold Tektite or Libyan Impact Glass, is a rare natural glass found only in the Eastern Sahara Desert (Eastern Libya and Western Egypt). It formed around 29 million years ago from the intense heat (over 1,600°C) of a meteorite impact or atmospheric explosion, which melted sand and rock that later cooled into this unique material.
This glass ranges in color from pale yellow to greenish-yellow and is often transparent or translucent, with smooth, weathered surfaces shaped by desert conditions.
