This remarkable glass was formed approximately 29 million years ago due to the intense heat generated by a meteorite impact or atmospheric explosion. The event propelled molten rock and sand into the atmosphere, reaching temperatures over 1,600°C, which then cooled and solidified into this stunning, glass-like material.

Libyan Desert Glass ranges in colour from pale yellow to greenish-yellow and is often transparent or translucent. Its smooth, weathered surfaces result from the natural forces of the desert.
