Bumblebee Jasper, also known as Bumblebee Stone. My research indicates this is a unique and rare crystal discovered in the 1990s in the active volcanic regions of Mount Papandayan, West Java, Indonesia. Its name comes from its distinctive banding of bright yellow, orange, and black/grey stripes, reminiscent of a bumblebee.

About Bumblebee Jasper:

Despite its name, Bumblebee Jasper is not a true jasper, as it lacks quartz. Instead, it is a blend of various minerals, mainly calcite, with traces of other volcanic materials some of which are toxic, which technically makes it more accurate to call it bumblebee stone.

Handling and Safety: Bumblebee Jasper contains potentially toxic minerals, so handling it with care is important. While polished pieces are generally safe to handle, precautions should still be taken:

  • Raw Stones: If handling raw pieces, wear gloves and wash your hands afterward to avoid any direct exposure.
  • Cutting or Polishing: Always use a dust mask or respirator when cutting or polishing Bumblebee Jasper, as the dust can be harmful when inhaled.
  • Avoid Water: Do not submerge Bumblebee Jasper in water, as this can cause toxic elements to be absorbed through the skin more easily.
  • Jewellery: It is safe to wear Bumblebee Jasper jewellery, especially when set in a way that limits direct skin contact. However, if the stone shows signs of crumbling, it’s best to avoid wearing it altogether.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and animals.

Caring for Bumblebee Jasper:

  • Cleaning: Avoid using water or salt to cleanse Bumblebee Jasper, as they can damage the stone. The safest way to cleanse its energy is through smoke cleansing or placing it on a piece of selenite.
  • Charging: You can recharge Bumblebee Jasper by placing it in sunlight or moonlight.
  • Storage: Since the stone is soft and in its natural raw form can crumble, especially in its yellow sections, store it properly to prevent damage and keep it dry.
